Manchester United and England attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard was reportedly a wanted man by Newcastle United during the January winter transfer window, according to multiple reports from various sources across the country. The United academy graduate has been attracting a lot of interest from the Tyneside club as a result of the lack of game time he is currently facing at Old Trafford and it started looking likely that he would no longer be a Red Devil since last summer.
It was reported that Lingard wanted the West Ham move but United saw that selling their player to a candidate of the top four places in the league could hamper their own chances of finishing in Champions League places. As the winter transfer window opened, speculations began making the rounds that Lingard could be moving to Newcastle to help the club in their battle against relegation. But with Mason Greenwood currently suspended from training or playing for the Old Trafford club, it was hard to let him leave. Lingard was not sold or loaned by United but it is believed that Newcastle could be returning with another bid for him in the summer.
